maximum memory under Tiger: 16GB

Under OS 10.3, no application can utilize more than 4GB RAM. Apparently, Tiger raises processing from 32-bit to 64-bit, which makes it possible for "64-bit applications" to access quadruple the memory they could access under 32-bit processing.

Does anyone out there know whether Logic 7.1.1 can take advantage of this new Tiger feature, or are we stuck with a 4GB RAM ceiling until the application is brought up to speed with the OS?

Actually, the max memory of Tiger is far greater than 16GB (that's the maximum of the latest G5's, I believe).

However, until the Cocoa and Carbon frameworks are updated to 64-bit, all GUI-based apps will be 32-bit. Child processes & daemons, however, can be done in 64-bit. This will probably take some serious reworking in Logic to do so (and as Stash said, who knows what the development labs at Apple are up to these days).
