Cant Consolidate Library error message

Cant Consolidate Library error message

This is the message I get when I try to consolidate my music. Copying music failed. The file name was invalid or to long. The way I tryed to consolidate my library was going threw the advanced option. I have more then enough space on my hard drive. It only consolidated a couple of artist before I got the error message.

Any one know what I can do?

I had trouble with this, too.

For my case, I had to run the consolidate feature over & over before I noticed it was stopping at an opera album with lots of tracks in the Compilations folder. I unchecked the "Compilations" box for the whole album, and itunes moved it out of that folder. Then the Consolidate worked.

So, you need to figure out which one it is having problems with.

Also, please report this as a bug to itunes.
Use itunes > Help > Provide itunes feedback.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with those tracks of mine, and the file names were not invalid or too long.

Were do I uncheck Compilations box?

Do a get info on all the tracks of one album, and it's in the lower left corener of the info page.

I'm not sure if this is your issue, though - can you tell which track(s) itunes is stopping at?

The last thing I see before the error message is elvis its to fast to see a song of album and I have a lot of elvis music on my i tunes.

What I noticed was, the consolidate function starts copying oldest files first.
I had to monitor the new consolidated folder using Win Explorer and display the "Date Created" column.
For me, it stopped after a Carole King album every time.

Then I had to go back and look at the folder itunes was trying to copy files from, again sorted in Win Explorer by "Date Created" and see what was added to my PC after Carole King. That is how I found the opera album in the compilations folder.

For anyone else with this problem, follow the link above to the original thread and you will find the ConsolidationFix java script. Run it because it really works. I was frustrated with the same problem and couldn't find the messed up file until I ran the program. It was simple and quick and now the library is consolidating fine.

Glad it worked for you, chelseag25. It did nothing for me, because my file names were never too long...I just ran into a bug in the consolidate portion of the itunes program.
