10.5.3 Install Failed - Cannot Verify Disk image

Ok, I get this message every time I try to install the 10.5.3 update. It doesn't matter if it is Software Update, or the direct DMG file from apple's site. During the installation this message comes up.

+Install Failed+

+The installer could not vailidate the contents of 'MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.3' Package. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.+

I've tried a repair permissions but that didn't help at all. Any suggestions or a solution?

2.16Ghz Macbook 3,1, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

Try using Disk Utility to verify the downloaded disk image. Open Disk Utility, and in the "Images" menu select the "Verify" option. Then select the disk image and start it off.

Ok, when manually opening the image, it fails to mount because of "codec overrun"

Same issue here with the Updater, downloading the dmg now to try that method. I too will attempt to verify using disk utility and report back if I'm still having problems.

i had the same problem updating my wife's macbook thru software update. instead i downloaded the mac os x 10.5.3 update (the 420mb version) instead of the combo update (the 536mb version) directly from apple's website. that worked fine on the first try. i won't even mention the mess the original 198mb software update version made of the macbook.

on the other hand, my macbook updated fine thru software update (420mb version) the first time.

Also, Disk Utility claims a corrupt image. I re-downloaded the image for good measures and it still gives me this.

I was able to mount the 10.5.3 dmg in the disk utility, verify, and then installed via the downloaded image - so that was successful, just the Software Updater failed the three times I tried that method.

The 420MB .dmg file fails verification also, this time for a "invalid checksum". I'm at a loss, I cannot get this to work here.

You might have an incomplete download or the dynamically requested packaged from Apple has a corrupted copy on one of it's load balanced servers.

Do you have access to another computer? or perhaps use another browser to download the file. Either way, change up the way you're downloading the file and then copy it to your computer and try to run it.
