10.5.3 Photoshop CS 3 issues

Hello,

After updating to 10.5.3 yesterday, I am now having issues saving Photoshop CS 3 files on our work XServe (which is running Mac OS X Server 10.3.9).

While working directly on the server, when I save a .psd file, close it, and try to reopen the file, I get the following error message: "Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document." I have tried renaming the file, opening it in Preview (and various other apps that can open .psd files) to no avail.

Strangely, when I work with .psd files on my local hard drive, I have no issues. This leads me to believe it may be some issue between 10.5.3 and the 10.3.9 server.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Well, I am not having any server issues as yet, but I am having a major problem with Photoshop (and illustrator) recognising file types. If I try to open a png, gif or tiff in Photoshop, I get an error stating that the file type is not recognised.

This only started following my updating to 10.5.3

The only work around I have discovered is opening the files in Preview and then saving them as either .psd or .pdf. Not a good long-term solution, though, as it seriously eats into my workflow.

I am surprised that I have not read about this issue occurring for anyone else.

I've experienced a similar problem with PhotoshopCS2, where tiff and PS files get corrupted just by saving them on another computer or HD. I thought it was a bad drive but the problem persisted after changing the drive for a new one. ANd what made it difficult- it didn't happen every time. Perhaps in about 33% of the cases. I lost a lot of work as a result.
I never figured it out but Apple thought it was the drive so it was repaired but it then reappeared. I now always verify the saved file is not corrupted by loading it into a file management app. like iView Media Pro or Bridge before closing the file. Also very rarely if ever found this problem when files were saved as jpegs.

The problem is not limited to images I have even created locally. I am sometimes using files from a variety of third-party sources and the response from Photoshop is always the same. Bizarrely, I can still save files out in the format that Photoshop refuses to recognise.

I understand that re-installing CS3 may fix it, but this isn't really good enough is it? I am also having Mail and Skype spontaneously crash and, although I know this would be for a different topic thread, this has only started happening since the 10.5.3 update. How Apple and Adobe did not pick up on these glaring problems is very odd.

I had solved the problem with this workaround.

I have done some test sharing the network volume also via NFS, and this works for me.
NFS does not support file resources as labels or custom icons and similar, but works fine with network sharing.

I have Xserve with 10.4.11 OSX Server and clients with 10.5.3.

To connect NFS volume with Cmd+K digit:
nfs://my.servername.com/complete/path/to/my/shared/folder

I hope this help!

We are running a Netgear ReadyNas and are experiencing the said problems. Initially we thought it was the server only as since updating to 10.5.3 the AFP server has lost all it's volume information. Reboot and wipe clean needed.

Our PSD's are giving us the same problems of not opening when saved down.

Really p*ssed off with the pathetic response time from Apple on this MAJOR problem.

Oh, and Graphic Converter doesn't work either. Even if it did a flattened file is not much use to us.

nearly 18,000 people viewing this topic and no public reponse from apple! yes I know its a user discussion forum, but we know from past issues (iPhone price cut) that apple do monitor.

would it be so hard to put out a press release saying we are aware of the issue and are working with adobe on a fix which will be release in the next month.

Apple wouldn't crumble just because it admits it made a mistake, I think most users would be grateful for their honesty, the secretive and silent apple is doing them more harm than good these days
