Installing iTunes 7.6 64-bit

I have Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, i cracked the installer for iTunes 7.6 (64-Bit for Vista) so it would stop checking for Vista and then it let me install in on XP, as the only item in that installer that is Vista Specific is the CD burning drivers, the rest is fine in XP.

After installing, when i launch iTunes it tells me i don’t have QuickTime installed. this is because quicktime is in “C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime” and iTunes thinks it should be in “C:\Program Files\QuickTime”. Program files (x86) is the folder for 32-bit emulation, and i cannot install Quicktime in the regular Program Files because its not a 64-bit program.

Apparently in Vista 64-bit versions you can link the 2 locations but that doesn’t work in XP, or at least its a different command prompt command.

Can anyone help?

I am a Mac advocate but have to use Windows and currently uses Windows XP Pro 64Bit (SP2) and I have the same issue I have found several websites on how to work around iTunes's problem to get it to work but what I am looking for is a way to request Apple to include the 64-Bit drivers and modify the install to recongize Windows XP Pro 64-Bit as a valid OS. This is all the work arounds are doing in the first place. I DON'T want to got Vista x64 to get a supported configuration of iTunes. You have 64-bit drivers for bootcamp so ITunes and Safari should be 64-bit.

BTW Here is the site I found with the workaround

Steve love your products but we need your apps to work in 64-bit on XP Pro 64bit and Vista 64bit, don't do a Microsoft.

Also while your at it can you hurry u with the Blue-Ray capable 15' MacBook Pros that can do WUXGA or 1080p HD resolutions (1900x1200).

Thanks for the lack of blue screens,

Chris
