10.5.3 coreaudiod (Not Responding)

After installing 10.5.3, the process coreaudiod in Activity Monitor shows as not responding. Quitting the process does not fix it, since after a couple of minutes it goes back to not responding, even when letting the computer idle without opening or closing any applications.

I have tried fixing permissions, zapping the PRAM, threw away coreaudio and audio preference files, but it always comes back. Audio applications seem not to be affected by it with playback and recording working without problems.

However, when I connect a Magma PCI Expansion chassis to the MacBookPro, several problems appear. In the finder, the icons on the menubar for the clock, wireless signal strength, audio
volume, etc. dissappear, only the spotlight icon remains. It is also impossible to turn them on via the control panels in system preferences. Clicking on the radio button works, but then resets itself to not clicked! right in front of my eyes.

Also, the system enters an error loop. In activity monitor, the process SystemUIServer continuously generates crash reports that get written in the Console's log.

It may be that the Magma chassis is not compatible with 10.5.3 although it is recognized in System Profiler, with no errors and claimed to be compatible.

Anyone else seeing this in Activity Monitor?

I have had the same problem so after searching on web I did some downloading of new software and deleting some staff and this is the result:
Deleting bluetooth plugin has resolved the problem of usereventagent but I still have the problem with coreaudiod,
I also downloaded Hear but it didn't do anything, so any luck on your side????
How can coreaudiod be resolved.

Hey Paul,

Thanks that worked for me, I had realised that UserEventAgent was crashing repeatedly from my logs, but didn't know why. I actually tried sticking it in the trash to see what happened and the crashes stopped. Good to know it was the Bluetooth plug-in - how did you find out? What does the plug-in do because Bluetooth doesn't seem to be affected by trashing the plugin?

yeah i removed this from the folder and that stopped both the coreaudiod and the usereventagent problems.

i think i had protools installed once, but i uninstalled it ages ago. didn't know this was hanging around. just to check though, this won't affect the sound on my computer will it? it won't affect my fcp or anything?

cheers and good luck to everyone else.

I was able to get rid of the coreaudiod not responding issue by removing WireTap Anywhere. I downloaded it a while back (not sure if its an issue with the latest version or not, though), and never use it - and never bought it, so there was no harm in removing it. If you own it, I'd recommend making sure you've tried the latest update before continuing. If you don't own it and would like to remove the parts of it that seem to be messing with coreaudiod, here's how

Open up /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components (that's /Library, not /System/Library) and delete any file referencing WireTap Anywhere - there should be one.

Then, open up /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL and delete any file referencing WireTap Anywhere. Once again, there should be one in there, too.

Then, open up the Activity Monitor and quit coreaudiod. When it re-launches (automatically), it should continue to respond.

If this doesn't solve the problem, you could always reinstall WireTap Anywhere. Also - if you don't have WireTap Anywhere installed, take a look at those folders to see if there are any other plugins that might be causing the issue.

Sadly I'm not sure which version I had. I had deleted the preference pane a long time ago, so I'm not sure what the version was. I downloaded WTA pretty close to its initial release, so it was probably v1.0.0, but I cannot confirm that, sorry!

Some of the apps that use coreaudio such as Airfoil needed updates as soon as the previous security update came out. There were PIE-related issues which the security update started strictly enforcing.
Airfoil was fixed that very same day, but other apps were not. My guess is that you had the early version of the software.

Hi all
I was experimenting with my MAC Book as my iSight was not working.
I reached *System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items* .... there I found the Hear thing as been told earlier by fellow Mac users. It was clicked to start during Start-Up even though I had completely removed the Hear application. Now from that menu when I removed the Hear application - I rebooted. And Viola! In the Activity Monitor - I dont see coreaudiod ( Not Responding )!

So fellow users - you all can try that out and see if it works!

Thanks!
