Can't get my Radium 49 recognized by my comp and/or logic

Hello all,

Please note that I am a complete newbie to all of this. Here is my problem:
I don't know how to configure AUDIO MIDI setup to work with my Firebox (which HAS been recognized). It won't recognize my external MIDI device, my Radium 49. I installed all of the drivers for it, but it doesn't come up.

Can someone please help me? Truth is, I don't really know WHERE the problem is in the first place, or how many there really are... 😟

Ok. Scratch that. I figured it out with much difficulty, but now I can get input from my keyboard!

My final problem is now this: I am using a digital out port from my comp, but I can't get any output with it using Logic. You hear nothing, no sound! So here I am with these huge speakers using optical out, and there's no audio! I have spent hours on this one, SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!

Thanks in advance!

Ok.

I have a Radium 49 and EV mic connected via MIDI out and XLR out, respectively, to a Presonus Firebox. The Radium is connected to the S/PDIF in on the Firebox. The Mic is XLR in. The Firebox is connected to my G5 via Firewire. From the computer, I have my external speakers connected via the optical digital out port. That's how I am supposed to be hearing my sound. It's just not working in Logic.

System Preferences is set just fine, I'm 99.9% sure of that. But, how should my Audio MIDI setup be configured. And then what adjustments should I make in Logic?

Thanks in advance. 🙂

Ok, this is pretty simple to fix. First of all, even if there's a breakout cable at the Firebox for both midi and S/PDIF, you're not connected on S/PDIF but on the midi in. This is not related to your problem but important to know.

Now, to the problem: you use two different interfaces: the Firebox and the computer built-in. Since those are two different drivers and Logic can talk to only one driver at once, you have to set-up an Aggregate Device in AMS. Open AMS, select the audio tab and from the audio menu, select Open Aggregate Device Editor. There, create a new device with both the Presonus and the built-in. Now, all you have to do is going back to Logic, open the audio preferences, select the drivers tab and select the aggregate device.

I'm sorry to pain, but can anybody be of some assistance? It's very frustrating to spend over a thousand dollars to set up a mini rec studio that won't work, and I can't do anything about it until I hear some of your replies. Read my previous response please, as I'm sure that's some key info as to what's going on with my system, I just don't know how to fix it.

Please help. Thanks a million to anyone who can solve or even try to solve my problem. Once again, I'm sorry to be a pain (if I'm coming off that way).

🙂

If the metronome works, that's a good point. If I check your previous posts, the problem is that you don't hear your Radium. Can you hear an audio track? If you didn't record anything audio, you can always open the Loop Browser and put an Apple Loop in the arrange window to test that. If you can hear that loop, the problem is not on the audio side.

The Radium is a midi controller, it won't generate any sound. If you want to hear something, you'll want to assign it to an audio instrument in Logic. Easiest way: take an audio instrument track, select a synth in the input section in the channel strip at the left and play. If there's midi information coming in the transport window, you should see the meters on the channel strip moving.

Alright. Now we're getting somewhere... The Apple Loops work. But, still, after following your instructions, I hear no sound from the Radium. But it DOES record input because I see the meters moving on the track strip in the main window. Maybe I followed them wrong...

Could you explain, step by step, exactly what I should do as if I'm a complete dummy? lol (e.g. 1....., 2....., 3.....,)

I am appreciative of your patience. I will learn the terminology as I go.

When you are on the arrange window, there's the Channel Strip at left. If you click on the input section, you can see a menu with sub-menus (mono, stereo, multi outputs) and then, if you select one of these appears another sub-menu. If you go to Logic, all soft synths available are listed there. Note that if you select EXS24 (the sampler) there's a lot of patches available in the EXS interface (piano, brass, drums, strings, etc) Check the Logic Plugins Reference for more information about the various synths available.
