We have OS 10.5.3 and have downloaded the newest version of Safari (3.1.1). However, it will not install. The message says that this version is only for OS versions 10.5.2 and newer, which we have! Any suggestions would be welcomed.
What version of Safari do you have? When I installed the updater for OS X 10.5.3, the Safari version number didn't change, but the "build number" did. This may suggest that there' a version of Safari 3.1.1 in the OS X 10.5.3 updater.
I'm assuming there was a Safari in 10.5.3. I can't check version number though, cuz it says my Safari is not supported by that version of OS and won't launch.
Oh, and it may be helpful to know that my Mac came installed with 10.3, which I regularly updated using system updater. Then when 10.5 came out, I loaded that and have been using system updater ever since. Nothing fancy, no extra downloads of anything except system updater stuff.
Same issue with Safari version 3.1.1 I downloaded it, tried to install it and get a message " This update requires Mac OS X 10.5.2 or newer." I am on 10.5.3 which isss newer!
Frustrated!!!!....suggestions anyone?
Not sure what there is to relax about. Safari does not launch. I have used both the system updater to install 10.5.3 AND downloaded 10.5.3 standalone AND tried installing Safari 3.1.1 using Firefox. I'm all relaxing over the message "Safari requires 10.5.2 or later" stalls my launch of Safari.
OK... ...I had the same problem you all have. I found a pretty simple fix.
1. Delete everything Safari related (that includes all previous downloads and installs that may have failed).
2. Insert Mac OS X install disc 1.
3. Choose optional installs.
4. Safari will be under applications.
5. Just continue with the installation and it should work!
Hope this helps! Reply to this message if it worked.
