Problems with Edirol FA-101

Hi there, I've recently started experiencing problems with my firewire audio interface. It's an Edirol FA-101, I've had it for a few month but haven't really used it much until recently. However, it quite often stops working in the middle of recording or playing back tracks. In order to get in working again I have to press in the Digital In sync button and then release it. This is something that is mentioned in the Edirol manual, but it's been happening a lot and has almost rendered the interface unusable. Is anybody else experiencing these difficulties with their Edirol FA-101? There doesn't seem to be that many parameters to alter but Is this something I can solve but adjusting sample rate, buffer size or using more RAM? Any help at all would be great, even just knowing that I'm not the only one with this problem...

I believe that the 101 is the 66's big brother, identical but with more inputs.

The FA-66 has firewire connection issues for some - I know I experienced it often on a friend's set up, and I've read many other such comments. I believe it's also acknowledged on the Edirol site.

It seems very particular where it is in the FW chain. Do you have other FW devices on the same bus? If so, have you tried changing the position in the chain? I recall that it liked being first in the chain best.

Whether or not it's causing your problem, 512MB is really light for RAM running Tiger and Logic. I'd bump that as high as you can in any event.

Hopefully you're running 24 bit at 44.1 or 48kHz, with your I/O buffer at least 256.

Hey, I have a 101 too. Never had this problem before. Are you using it with the digital sync button in or out normally? Unless something is connected to the spdif optical input then you should NOT have this button switched in.

I've never had any problems with mine at all. See my set up below is roughly the same as yours and I was running it with just 256 RAM for quite some time, again with no problems at all. I normally use buffer setting of 64 - 256 depending on how heavy the session is I'm working on, and whether I need lower latency. I never go any higher than 256.
