iMovie bugged

Hi everybody,
I did some videos with iMovies, then all of a sudden it started acting weird: apparently my project library is empty, but clicking where the projets should be works, somehow.

But the interface is messed up, most buttons won't answer and as I try to use it or resize the window, things get worse!

if I minimize iMovie, then it will pop back up as a blank window, leaving the minimized icon in the dock...

I tried trashing iMovie and reinstalling it from my macos 10.5 CDs but still had problems; updated again, and back to this mess!

please help me!

thanks in advance..

Daniele

Hi

Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:

• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
• Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08)

• Program miss-match: iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
• Program miss-match: iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Program miss-match: iMovie’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)

iMovie pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named: com.apple.iMovie.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iMovie.

Thanks for your advices, I'm already trying with some of them. I wouldn't have guessed it could be disk related! but I have been working for a lot of time with a lot less then 10 GBs of free space without problems... I'll try that too!

Resetting preference file didn't help; my OS is 10.5.3, iMovie 7.1.1 and quicktime 7.4.5

I tried to remove some projects and events, that didn't help either..

now I'm checking disk status!

hi again...

I repaired both disk status and permissions with no result, i've got now more than 5 GB free space, still not working properly. I'll try to free even more space, even if I don't understand how disk space can affect interface... After all it's not slow when it comes to look at videos or move trhough a clip... it just is too messed up in the look to work 😟
