Wireless Remotes for Keynote. Any Opinions?

Looking for a wireless remote. Something very simple to just advance and go back within a Keynote slideshow.

There seems to be a bunch out there, but the two I'm considering are the Kensington Pocket Presentation Wireless and the Keyspan PR-US2 Presentation remote.

One thing that concerns me, is that I can't get the Keyspan web site to show up, and would be reluctant to buy an "orphaned" product.

So any opinions about either these two remotes or even any others that you have experience with?

Thanks in advance for your help! Cheers!

Keyspan has just come out with an excellent, reasonably priced new remote: the Keyspan Easy Presenter (PR-EZ1). It lists for $40 and is available for less online. It includes a built-in laser pointer, has some advanced capabilities that you can just disregard if they aren't relevant (e.g., adjusting the audio volume), it is lightweight and small. It has a small, self-powered receiver that plugs into your Mac's USB port.

Disclosure: I have no connection at all to Keyspan; I'm just happy that they finally got it really right after several false starts.

I teach for a living and am just coming to the end of my first week having switched from that other package to Keynote. As part of the switch I also went from a cordless mouse (nothing but trouble) to the Kensington Presentation Wireless. I can thoroughly recommend it and my PC using colleagues loved it too when they came in to do their lectures.

It's easy to hold, has a laser pointer when needed, no worries about pressing the wrong button and dropping out of the presentation and a good range (I walk around a lot when talking) - I couldn't go out of range in our 250 seater auditorium, although YMMV.

I'll reserve judgement on the support if things go wrong though - the Kensington site wouldn't let me register the product and email to their support address have gone unanswered. Still for 30 quid I'll forgive them that if nothing goes wrong 🙂

I purchased a cheap Cellink wireless mouse / presenter mouse. Although it said on the packaging it was Mac compatible, it kept causing Kernel panics everytime a button was pressed! I also found it very small and awkward hold, so I returned it. In the meanwhile I have bought a Microsoft Standard Wireless optical mouse which is fine for the few occasional presentations I have to do.

On the subject of advancing Keynote slides, does anyone know if Mac OS X voice recognition commands work for forwarding slides? I don’t have any experience of setting up or using spoken commands, but it would be really cool if you could use spoken commands to forward slides!!!

Will, it may look cool to use voice commands (though I'm not sure if it works), but from an audience point-of-view, they would much more appreciate a remote control and they will remain more concentrated on your presentation. Once you start commanding your Mac with your voice, you will have lost your your audience, from that monent they will be waiting for your next voice command. If your Mac fails to listen just once, you can bet the only interest of the audience will be "who wins the next slide? your voice or your Mac"
