How to Put Comment after phone number in Contact

What type of comment?

The Address Book application on a Mac, as well as the iPhone's Address Book, includes a Notes field.

When creating a contact, or when editing an existing contact on the iPhone, select Add Field at the bottom. At the bottom, select Note to add comments.

There is no need for a special symbol after the phone number. Just leave a space and type any text you want. I use it to clarify different kinds of cell phones friends have for example. (That kind of information wouldn't be easily put into the notes field without repeating numbers and extra explanation.)

When you sync it shows up in iPhone just the way it is in your contact list on the Mac. When you dial the number in iPhone it simply ignores the text and dials only the number.

I have notes after many of my phone numbers; I just leave a space and then add the note. I have no trouble calling them. Try deleting the number, then add it back with just a space after the number. There may be a hidden character in the field.

I've had this same issue. Though I have not conducted a scientific study, it appears that some parts of the AT&T system allow letters after numbers and others don't. I'm in the Boston area, based in Newton. Near Newton the network accepts the letters, and in other parts of the Boston area it does not. Seems this may be a question for AT&T.

Do you get the "cannot complete your call as dialed" message? My problem was that I had other letters in my address book phone number. When I had a Treo, these did not cause a problem--they were ignored by the phone when dialing.

With the iPhone 3G, if I have any letters after the phone number, i.e. 818-555-1212 V (for Vonage), it will not complete the call. Try eliminating any numbers or letters after the phone number. One solution is to place the phone number with additional information in the Notes field. Not as handy, but a workaround that works.

Oh, and the first character of the comment cannot be a number.
