Exporting multiple vcards

Is there a way to export all of my contacts through the vcard type of file?

I can do it one by one, but can I do it with all of them at the same time?

I am trying to export the addresses to a PC.

Thanks,

Julio

Yes. In Address Book, select all the cards you want to export, press and hold the option key, and drag them to the Desktop. You'll get individual vCards for all of your contacts (note that all the file icons will be stacked on top of each other, so you may want to drag the pile to a new folder and switch to list view).

(Note that if you select all and use the export command, it creates a group vCard file containing all of the contacts. Some other apps (e.g. Entourage, Lotus) have difficulty parsing them out.)

Hope this helps...

If you select all contacts in the All Group, and then Export as vCard, it will export all contacts as a single Group vCard.

Some email clients have trouble importing a Group vCard.

If you want to export all contacts as individual vCards at once, create a folder on your Desktop for the export.

After selecting all contact in the All Group, press and hold the option key, and then drag this to the folder created on the Desktop. This will create an individual vCard file for each contact.

You can attach this folder to an email message sent to an email address that you access with an email client on the PC.

Allan, you´re the man!
Problem 1 solved. How to send multiple cards. Done.

Now. I send all the cards by email. More or less 200. And I receive 200 cards on the PC. Up to there.. no problem.
BUT, when I try to import the vcf cards to the Address Book in the PC, it does recognize that there are 200 vcf files, but the content of each one of them is blank. Then it asks me to fill in all the spaces available, like last name, name, etc. ...

Is there a reason for this? I mean, am I doing smth wrong?

Thanks,

Julio

Allan and I gave identical advice (with the exception that he suggested creating a folder in advance of the option+drag, whereas I suggested option+drag to the desktop, then move to a folder).

Thanks for the User uploaded file!

If Allan's suggesting of an alternate vcf format doesn't work, this may (although I hope not) require using a csv (comma-separated value) file format. For that, on the Mac side you can use a utility like this one, and most Windows contacts managers (e.g. Address Book, Outlook) will import a csv file. That's one of the suggested methods for getting contacts into XP's Address Book (see this Microsoft kbase article).

Hope this helps...

Not sure what to tell you, then. I run AddressBook2CSV, and click the Export button (Step 1 in the app) and I get a file called Address Book.csv on my desktop (or the Documents folder, if I specify that). Or, clicking on Advanced, I can select a Group from my address book and export that.

Hmmmmm....you're in the Tiger forums - are you running OS X 10.4? My Address Book is version 4.0.6.
