Sony DCR-TRV18 not recognized using iMovie 08 on Intel iMAC
I recently purchased a new iMAC and was looking forward to using the Mac to edit video. I have a Sony DCR-TRV18 mini-DV camcorder that I just can't seem to get recognized by the Mac or iMovie in order to capture the video.
I am using the Sony firewire (ilink) cable provided with the camcorder. I have video on the tape. The unit is plugged in to an electrical outlet. The camcorder can transmit still images and memory captured video through USB, but the camcorder is not recognized for video capture from the tape.
I take the following steps:
1. Mac is on
2. Camcorder is plugged in
3. Attach the cable from camcorder to iMac
4. Turn camcorder to VCR mode (which turns on the unit)
5. Nothing happens
I can either have iMovie 08 already running, or start it after the fact and the device is never recognized.
Again - if I turn the camcorder to Memory mode - the unit is recognized as external storage and can export photos and memory captured video but nothing else.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
