Runtime Error 4: Failed Assertion

This error dialog box has plagued me everyday for two months... what is causing this? It nearly always comes up when I launch MAIL app? I have scoured the Internet and find nothing. The dialog has a Quit and Continue button. If I hit Continue, it just keeps reappearing instantly. If I click Quit I can move one for a while.

The full error reads...

Location: /Volumes/RBUS/REALbasic/REALbasicXCode/../../Common/relocentry.cpp3375
Failure Condition: functionPtr = = old entry->code
Failure Message:

I just installed 10.5.3 from the Combo Updater, Repaired Permissions, etc. and it just popped up again!!!

You've obviously installed some piece of software that's written in REALBasic; Apple doesn't use it for anything I'm aware of.

Orangekay is correct. I know because I have the REALbasic programming package.

Assuming you don't have the REALbasic programming package (probably in your Applications folder), you must have an application, or perhaps a plug-in, written in REALbasic that's causing this.

You say this started about 2 months ago. Did you install some non-Apple software then? Or, possibly, remove one or more folders and/or objects that might be related to some non-Apple software?

Thanks all!

I think I located the source of the problem. I purchased a new Epson Perfection V500 Photo scanner a couple months ago and it came with a disc called "Epson Creative Suite" which includes the software to make all four hardware buttons on the front of the scanner do various direct tasks such as "Save to PDF" and "Scan to Copy", etc. - this was the reason I purchased this scanner. I saw no mention of the fact that all the hardware controls on the outside of the scanner were Windows Only!!! I spoke with Epson Tech support today and they told me that the Epson Creative Suite was for Windows only and that all the hardware controls on the outside of the unit were worthless in MacOS and there was no plan to make them work in the future; however, the "software" drivers ARE Mac compatible (more or less).

Still cannot explain how their Windows only software installed on my system - in fact the "Scan to Email" button was working! Guess I just got suckered by Epson again.
