How long to charge a new iTouch?

Ok so just got my new iTouch and it's all sync'd up. But how long should I let it charge for the first charge?

I'm from the old school days when you let things charge for 24 hours, drain it completely and charge again for 24 hours to properly condition the batteries. Do I still need to do that with this device?
