Two time machine back up folders

I recently replaced my imac. I also have a 500gb drive containing my backups from 1/11/08 to 5/28/08, when I started time machine on the new mac it started a new backup folder (my name computer #2) from 5/31/08 to the present. How do I consolidate these files? When I try to drag one file to the other I am told that the file cannot be modified. Only the files in #2 show up in the time machine window.
Thanks, Tom

Use these steps to use the old backups: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080128003716101.
You'll have to remove the new ones. There's no way to merge them, unfortunately.
