Macintosh HD icon keeps moving

Not sure why, but you can lock it in place. With no Finder window active, select View menu > Show View Options, check the box for "Keep arranged by" and set the pop-up menu to Kind.

I once had an overly cluttered desktop and my Mac HD icon started moving around with each restart. It seemed to be "looking" for a clear area. You might try clearing some space around your HD's icon and see if that helps.

Don't worry about it.. it's moving because it making room for other stuff
you have on the Desktop. Try to clear some of it from the Desktop, if it's
not necessary to have it there.

I've found if I put any other icons too close to the hard drive icon it will move after a restart or shutdown but not after sleeping it. This will also happen if you put the hard drive icon too close to the edge of your screen.
If I keep other icons a 1/2" away I have no trouble (distance varies depending on your screen size).
