Keyboard/mouse USB Hub for multiple computers?

In my office I have a Mac desktop, PC desktop, and PC laptop that I use frequently at any given moment. Long story, lots of single OS software, and alot of inter-office proprietary software.

It's a big mess to have 2 keyboards, 2 mouses, and as well as being ergonomically incorrect to use a laptop keyboard (i think). I'd love to clean up and use simply one keyboard/mouse, hooked into some sort of 'hub/switcher' device, which is then connected to all 3 computers through USB.

Is such a thing possible? Compatible across both Mac and PC OS's? Ideally I wouldn't need to install any software (all installations go through an IT paperwork process).

Luckily my monitors each have dual inputs, so I get by on that already 😀.

Why are KVM switches a pain?

I never realized they were. But since you won't need the monitor function, just use a USB switch like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F1U200V-4-Port-USB-Switch/dp/B000EJUCVE

FWIW, KVM switches are a MUST for Windows systems ... they tend to go haywire if they lose the mouse or keyboard connection. A good KVM setup will keep them thinking they're still connected.
