Email not able to send

I have had this problem going on three days now. I have read many posts and made some changes. I have been able to make my .mac account work by changing the port setting but my pop email account is not able to send. Like almost everyone else I connect to the server and receive but can not send. I have two computers have this issue, the mac book and a mini.

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

mac book, Mac OS X (10.5.3)

I'd try going here:
http://www.apple.com/support/dotmac/

and checking the system status before changing anything on your system.

.Mac has been going through some issues over the last few days, and the system has been going up and down. Right now it says "All .Mac services are online and fully operational." But the status is reported when changes occur.

Me too ... can receive not send ... on our MacBook Air ... have tried various combinations in Mail Preferences, and no joy ... the iMac & MacBook Pro work fine, with the same settings, so I'm puzzled ... all three are connected together wirelessly & to an old G4 PowerBook for connection to the 'net ... hmmm ... check System Preferences, too, but all seems OK there ...

All four are used by wife & self, with separate accounts, and the problem affects both of us ... for receiving, the 'Air connects, for sending it fails to connect !

'know the feeling ... big fan, but there are moments when something like this comes-up ... my feeling is that the heart of the problem lies in something to do with permissions, and maybe networking & sharing, too - all of which can be a bit obscure !! - because, in our case it's only one machine that's has the problem, the others seem fine ...

Hi. I'm having the same problem. I can only sen through my .mac account, not any of my pop accounts. All accounts show as connecting correctly in connection doctor. I've checked all the settings to no avail. I can send from my pop accounts on the same macbook through Outlook on Windows (using VMFusion). I'm a new mac user, having bought my first macbook about a week ago. All the hype that macs "just work" seems a bit difficult to justify when I read some of the threads here!

Anyone got any further thoughts on this problem.

My tuppence worth:

I have what sounds like the same issue on my brand-new iMac and my BMB. 10.5.2 Mail worked just find. 10.5.3 just doesn't want to send anything. We've got three IMAP accounts on our server (office environment, using Macs only).

Before anyone else weighs in with "check your settings" or "it must be an ISP issue" - we have, and it's not. We've had our Apple consultants in, and they're as baffled as we are.

The work-around that works for me at the moment when I've sent a mail (and it hasn't been sent!), is going into "Mailbox", clicking "Take All Accounts Offline", waiting for the squiggly horizontal S to appear next to my mailboxes and for the mailboxes to be greyed out, then going back into "Mailbox" and clicking on "Take All Accounts Online".

The email I have just sent (which didn't go) then promptly goes.

To my mind - albeit limited - this smacks of a bug in Mail.

Aye ... must say, I'm pretty impressed by Leopard & the new Macs (iMac, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Time Capsule), in many ways, but I'm getting close to sending them all back ... battery life on the Pro & the Air is pretty awful, Mail on the Air works one-way only - what use is that? - I've had to completely reload the iMac & the Pro ... and I daren't try the Time Capsule a second-time ... I'm a big fan, but my patience & confidence is running out !!

This whole thread has become so confused with mixed details that is impossible for anyone to help.

It's .Mac, not it's POP, no wait it's IMAP. It's on 10.5.3 no wait it's on 10.5.2.

Many many people are not having any of these problems, and the posters in this thread are not dealing with the same problem, just the same result. You guys are in a feeding frenzy of possibly unrelated problems. The posts are now complaining about totally unrelated issues with other hardware that has nothing to do with emails at all. What are you trying to fix in a post that's titled "Email not able to send".

Why don't each of you start again by asking or posting a question that relates to just your systems' and configurations? More details on the email type, ISP, settings you are using would be a great help for anybody that has a similar setup and solution.

I have to say that I thought I made myself clear, "pop email account is not able to send. Like almost everyone else I connect to the server and receive but can not send. I have two computers have this issue, the mac book and a mini." I did mention that .mac account works fine.

POP Account
out going port 25 with out password
incoming port 110 with password

If you know any answers then please advise. Thank you!
