Problems with DiskUtil and udf formatted DVDs

I don't know if this is a bug or something strange with my installation. After I updated to 10.5.3 from 10.4.11, whenever a udf dvd disc is inserted, I can see it being recognized but it is not mounted -the disc is greyed out in the disc utility, and the utility will not let me mount it. Same results through the terminal using diskutil and mount. However if I go to the terminal and type

and reinsert the disc it is still greyed out but now I can mount it -either through the terminal or the mount command in disk utility, and can open it with the finder . If I mount any another disc I still have to mounted manually. If I reboot I have to redo the kextload command. Also this problem only seems to be affecting my intel boxes, the ppc boxes running 10.5.3 seem to work fine. Is anyone seeing this consistently? Any ideas? Thanks

UDF is not a universally supported format, in spite of the word Universal in the U part of its acronym. It may be it is a version of UDF that the version of Mac OS X you are using is not as familiar with. This software is used to understand more formats of UDF on a Mac:

To make a true crossplatform DVD, use ISO formatting.
