Once connected to VPN, Safari is really slow

I have set up a VPN connection to our SBS 203 server so I can remote desktop to my computer at work. The one problem is that once connected Safari work really slow. The remote desktop connection works fine. Any Ideas?

Once your vpn is established then tcp traffic to safari is coming from your office's internet connection and their dns servers. Depending how your office's internet connection is configured this would have an impact on the speed of the bandwidth safari receives.

To make safari use your own internet connection whilst your vpn is established goto

system preferences-->network-->select your vpn from this list of available ports on the left.

click on 'advancecd'

uncheck 'send all traffic over vpn' click ok, click apply

well to check that safari is not going through the vpn you can do a little test.

make sure your not connected to the vpn and goto http://whatismyip.com

take a note of your IP address.

Then connect to your vpn. Then refresh the page http://whatismyip.com

If your ip address does not change then your safari traffic is not going through the vpn and then there maybe some other things we can do to find out where the bandwidth issue is.
