Hey, does anyone know where I can get losetup for Mac?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

It is a Linux tool. BSD uses the vnconfig program for similar operations. I saw one web site where someone suggested that the hdid program on MacOS X was an equivalent. I have no idea. It is all over my head.

If you explained exactly what you were trying to do, there might be a pure Mac solution.

Are you just trying to mount an image file (iso, dmg)? if so, you could just double click on it. Or just run something like shown below.

hdiutil attach <image file>

example


$ hdiutil attach memtest86-3.4a.iso
/dev/disk1 /Volumes/CDROM

Or are you wanting to create a ramdisk?

Well, here's what I'm trying to do.

I'm writing an operating system that can is stored on a floppy disc. Normally I use Linux for development, but that machine is not available right now.

What I have is a floppy .img file that contains GRUB on it. This GRUB boots my OS from a src folder on the floppy. I then run the .img file inside of VirtualBox or bochs.

However, I use a setup script which uses losetup to copy my source files to the floppy for me automatically so I don't have to reconfigure GRUB everytime...

Any ideas?
