Cannot connect to wikipedia

I can connect to any website except for wikipeida.com. I don't vandalize articles and I have tried to connect on different networks, in different states, no luck. Please help a student.

Hi--

Go to your Utilities folder and open the Network Utility program. First, go to the "Lookup" tab and type "www.wikipedia.org" into the box and set the pop-up menu to look up "Internet Address". When you do this, you should get an answer section like this:

;; ANSWER SECTION:
www.wikipedia.org. 3305 IN CNAME rr.wikimedia.org.
rr.wikimedia.org. 219 IN CNAME rr.pmtpa.wikimedia.org.
rr.pmtpa.wikimedia.org. 1353 IN A 208.80.152.2

Your answer might be the same or slightly different, but you should get an answer.

If you get the same answer as me, then that means that you're getting the correct DNS response. Next, go to the "Ping" tab and enter "www.wikipedia.org" again and see if that address will ping. Send only 10 pings or so. If "www.wikipedia.org" doesn't work, try the IP address you got back in the "Lookup" tab. That's the last number (208.80.152.2) in the output above.

If the pings work, then you should be able to reach the server. Open the Terminal application from your Utilities folder and run this command (copy and paste it or type it, then hit the "enter" key), then wait for at least 10 seconds:

curl -I --connect-timeout 10 http://www.wikipedia.org/

Here's what I get:

HTTP/1.0 200 OK
Date: Sun, 08 Jun 2008 15:57:18 GMT
Server: Apache
X-Powered-By: PHP/5.2.1
Cache-Control: s-maxage=3600, must-revalidate, max-age=0
Last-Modified: Tue, 3 Jun 2008 00:13:11 GMT
Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8

X-Cache: MISS from sq27.wikimedia.org
X-Cache-Lookup: HIT from sq27.wikimedia.org:3128

Content-Length: 54985
X-Cache: HIT from sq28.wikimedia.org
X-Cache-Lookup: HIT from sq28.wikimedia.org:80

If you don't get any output, or it times out (change the "10" in that line to a different number to shorten or lengthen the amount of time it waits to say it can't connect), then it could be a problem with the route to the Wikipedia host.

So, go to the Traceroute tab. Type in either the "www.wikipedia.org" address, or its IP address, then see what you get. This may take a few minutes. Now, one thing to keep in mind here is that some firewalls and routers won't pass the necessary packets for traceroute. It that's the case (it is with my router), you'll only see one line of output with your router's address. Otherwise, you should see a whole listing of the route. I got this by logging into a machine at work (I obscured the IP address in the first hop with "nn.nn.nn.nn", but ordinarily it'll be a regular IP address):

traceroute to rr.pmtpa.wikimedia.org (208.80.152.2), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets

Post your traceroute if you don't understand what it's saying...

Is this the result you get when you run a ping test? I didn't see the ping test results in your reply.

Lookup

Looks normal to me.

Terminal says
curl: (7) Failed to connect to 208.80.152.2: Network is unreachable

This tells me that the DNS lookup is working...

Traceroute says
traceroute: bind: Can't assign requested address

I did a Google search and came up with someone who'd had a similar error message, and solved it by running this command in the Terminal app:

<pre class="command">sudo route flush</pre>

He said he "restarted" the interface after that, but I'm not sure what he means by that. Perhaps switching to ethernet if you're on wireless, or vice versa, would do it. I'm pretty sure a reboot ought to do it.

The posting I found was here:
