Where is the preference that allows you to automatically connect to the internet (CDDB) when you insert a music CD in iTunes 5.0.1? Used to be in iTunes preferences, but I no longer see it there. I am having to manually access through advanced options. Any help would be appreciated. Quick

I've been looking for that as well, but for the opposite reason. As soon as CD is inserted iTunes launches. I set iTunes as my primary music player system-wide so this doesn't surprise me. Now I cannot stop it from trying to connect to CDDB. I have Little Snitch doing that for me now. This reduced functionality is really annoying. We'll see what the new iTunes (iTunes 5.01) has for us.

Between the two of us, there is a solution for both our problems. What is the difference between our configurations? The biggest difference I can see is that you are running Tiger and I am still using Panther. The solution should be obvious, and since its not, it is a bug in the User Interface. Shall we submit this as a bug in iTunes?

Hey Dave,
Sorry it took me a few to reply. I did find it. I know it wasn't there before. This is not my first day out! Who knows. I do not even bother submitting things to Apple anymore since the huge issue that thousands had/have with Ti PowerBook G4 batteries. They just do not care it seems.

Does anyone know exactly what ports and IP addresses Gracenote and Itunes use. We have filtering and since the new version of Itunes I can no longer play music CD's at all. I have several angry teacher who want me to get it fixed, yesterday.
Any help greatly appreciated.

No idea Holt, sorry. Quick

If you're quick enough, you might be able to hit the "x" in the info window when it's connecting. My gripe is, once it sets the track names, it's set! There's a little file somewhere with that info, anyone know how to edit it. Back a few versions ago I had a disc that would 'cause kernal panic everytime I inserted it, had to completely erase that little file. Seems it's now in the xml file in the iTunes folder, 'couse you'd have to know what you were doing to edit it.

I completely turned off our firewall and I still cant get track names. I have been trying to work with our ISP. They are asking me what port the service uses. And service.gracenote.com is not blocked thru our ip filter. So what is the problem?
Holt,
I think it might be port 888. There's a Perl module for talking to the Gracenote servers and its default is 888.
Also, do you have a proxy set up? That might also cause problems with this kidn of thing...

Nope, no proxy. Thanks for the input...
New version of Itunes still does not fix Cd icon from showing on right side of Itunes. When you start Itunes with a cd inserted, it hits Gracenote CDDB, then nothing.
I'd trash EVERYTHING iTunes except of course the library and do a fresh download of 6 instead of an upgrade. Might work.
New 6.0.1 Fixed issue. Still no track names, but at least the CD icon comes up. And they can listen to CD's.
That is odd. I have had no probs. I would still trash everything iTunes but the library and install straight to 6.0.1. Spotlight is great for finding all the preference files, ect. JUST DON'T DELETE THAT LIBRARY!!!! A lot of folks are having MAJOR issues with the 10.4.3 update. Would not recommend it until 10.4.2 was running smoothly. Don't forget to repair permissions before and after. Boot from install disc to repair... I don't care what anyone else says, boot from the install disc. Good luck. Quick
