Noise in tracks using Yamaha MW 12 recording mixer

Hi Everyone
I have Logic Express 7 and I am trying to use it with a Yamaha MW 12 USB recording mixer. I have a Powermac G5 1.6 with 2 gig ram. I am also using DI boxes for guitars and basses. My problem is when I set up a project and get set to do a track I get a hissing, noisy sound in the track I tried increasing buffer size but that was no good. Any suggestions? I went to the Yamaha website and could not find anything on there about it. I tried using my Macbook but the same problem.
Any help would be great.

Hi John,

This problem is known to me, as I use a Yamaha MW8cx (the same family recording mixing desk). Sometimes, when you launch Logic, the generic audio driver the Yamaha uses (it's called "USB Audio Codec" or something) switches to 8-bit bit depth audio (both for Audio Input and Output). I usually go to Audio MIDI setup and reset this driver manually in this case. You can find Audio MIDI setup in the Utilities folder: Finder menu -> Go -> Utilities -> Audio MIDI setup. Launch it by double-clicking the icon. When it starts up, just choose that USB Codec driver in the window that appears and select 16-bit in the Format section of Audio Input and Output. The hiss will disappear.

I recommend you to put Audio Midi setup's icon in the Dock, so it's one-click away, if the USB driver gets changed to 8-bit audio again. I don't know the reason why it changes, sometimes it just does...
