Ctrl+insert as copy and shift+insert as paste

I would like to ask whether it is possible to set up Mac OS X to recognize keyboard shortcut ctrl+insert for copy and shift+insert as paste.

As I'm working in linux&mac&win environment with dvorak/qwerty keyboard layouts it's quite favorable for me to have one common shortcut for copy/paste.

any help appreciated.

On the Mac this appears to be the Help key. So my understanding is you want to map shift+Help to "copy" and control+Help to paste? I'm not sure but it may be the help key is programmed into the basic OS as help since just about all programs use it, and it may be very tricky to remap it. A certain amount of editing can be done with keyboard shortcuts in Preferences. More adventuresome editing can be done with the help of sites such as:

and a program called KeyBindingsEditor

Hi Marian and welcome to the forums! 🙂

I know of no easy way to do that, but everything quite likely is possible, perhaps with your knowledge you could figure a way to manipulate the key codes to achieve this.

Something like CMD+c = ctrl+insert...

That being said and likely not much help, I work in 4 environments with 8 different KB layouts, and find exercising my Mind to keep track of the different commands nice and pleasantly challenging! 🙂

well, i just wanted to ask before i start messing around writing kernel module for handling this... but this seem to be the most convenient way for me as i could not found anyone to resolve this issue.

well, i exercise my mind by going from dvorak to azerty and then to qwerty, for me that's enough :P

but for me it's more like question of speed than of exercising. i have no problem to reprogram my mind to another familiar layout instantly...

they are all outdated.

Do you mean non functional links? I tested them and they all lead to pages discussing the issue of key mappings. What you are trying to do is going a bit outside the realms of 99.9% of the computer users out there so one has to read into the subject since there's not much in the way of, "Here's how to make shift+help key do 'copy'."
