Firewire devices connect3ed across power transitions
Possible dumb question...
I've just about filled my iMac's internal HD so need to add an external drive. I have used Firewire drives for some time for backup use only (always connecting after the iMac is on, always unmount before powering down).
I recall years back there were issues with having FW drives connected when powering up or down, is this still an issue? I am looking at a LaCie drive which has some sort of auto power feature so the drive will turn on and off with my iMac...is this safe? What about "portable" drives that are powered by the USB port itself?
