Illustrator is taking too long to save a small file

Illustrator is taking too long to save a small file, I am using Illustrator CS3 also its saving very slowly my machine has got a enough space and memory. can any one tell a solution.

macpro3,1, Mac OS X (10.5.2), Quad-core Intel Xeon
