external CD drive compatible with iTunes

I have an out-of-warranty PowerBook with a broken disc drive. I can't afford to replace it, so I am looking for an external read/write drive that is compatible with iTunes. (I have one that imports CDs fine, but iTunes doesn't recognize it when it comes time to burn.)

Can anyone recommend one? Thanks.

I have an external Lacie CD/DVD burner that iTunes, the Finder and iDVD all recognize with no problem.

by the way, mine is a LaCie, too. It's a portable USB 2.0 Slim Combo CD-RW Drive (designed by Porsche, they love to tell me).

Hello Liz,

Have you tried using PatchBurn: http://www.patchburn.de/download.html

That should enable Burn support for iTunes if your external CD drive supports it.

LaCie CD/DVD burner designed by Porche, can't remember the specific model, but I got it on closeout from LaCie about a year ago, so I'm pretty sure that this specific one isn't available any longer. That having been said, LaCie firewire burners are (to my knowledge) all compatible with Macs. Check out their website for compatibility, and do look at their closeouts- some really good deals show up there.
