Burning Purchased TV shows

Why are all the media outlets saying that Apple's DRM won't let you burn downloaded TV programs on CDs? I burnt my episode of Desperate Housewives with no problem.

And on the "One more thing" video I could have sworn I heard Steve Jobs say that you could do this very thing!

Is everybody repeating one badly mistaken impression?

You can burn the video content to Data disc, yes, but those discs will not play in a DVD player. The DRM on the new video content in the iTMS will not allow burning of the TV shows to DVD or any other form of video disc.

So the media outlets are not mistaken.

Ah! I see. I could burn to a DVD using Finder, but just as you say, it will not play on the DVD player. So that stops one level of piracy. As far as the CD's are concerned, yeah, I'll make a copy for my girlfriend, but I can't imagine anybody paying even bootleg money for these pixelated videos.

If you can't burn a DVD to play on TV then its not a PURCHASE in my book. You bought permission to play on itunes or Ipod.

bottom line - a purchased TV show means I can watch on TV using a DVD player, I CAN make a backup copy, I CANNOT distribute copies, but I CAN resale as long as I do not make more money than I purchsed it for.

Bottom Line(2) Downloading videos and tv shows; Apple and whomever are so scared of getting ripoff that the people who are downloading these are the ones getting rippoff.
