It works fine on my admin account, but won't work on my daily account. I tried clearing cache and stuff, but no joy. I can't reset because nothing comes up, and if I mouse over the task bar I just get the spinning beach ball of death. I would post the crash report, but I keep getting errors that row 1 is too wide or something. This is ridiculous. I just want my Safari back, I don't like Firefox.
Are you using Safari 2.0.4 or 3.1.1? Your forum tag (10.4.7) means you're using 2.0.4, however, please confirm.
A reset clears files but does not resolve file corruption.
In your general account via the Finder:
-move to the desktop the
com.apple.safari.plist file from your User Account>Library>Preferences folder, then restart Safari. If problem persists move the preference file back to its original location, then...
-go to the User Library>Caches>Safari and move that folder to the desktop. Same routine as the previous step (restart Safari, etc). If no go, move the folder back etc.
Next, move the
Cookies.plist file found in your User Library>Cookies folder to the desktop. Restart Safari. If stable, you have a corrupted cookies file. Safari creates a new one on the restart. If not stable, move back to the original location, then next step.
Last step: move to the desktop the
Safari folder (which holds bookmarks, history, etc), and restart Safari. This folder is found in the same User Library accessed for the preference file. Restart Safari. If no relief, move the folder back, replacing the newly created one. If it does work, then you'll need to move one file at a time back to its original location, restarting Safari each time to isolate the problem file. When Safari crashes, you found the culprit.
Yeah, I changed the tag and it didn't work, goes right along with the stupid error message I get when I try to post the crash report, hopefully it'll stick this time.
None of that works.
I CAN'T reset Safari, because it won't even start, it bounces once in the dock, then stops responding.

I realize you can't reset it. That's why I suggested moving via the Finder the various files set out in my first post. Amending my first post (assumed you were using Tiger) the only change would be the Cache: In Leopard, the file is
com.apple.Safari found in your User Account>Library>Caches folder.
If one account works, but another doesn't, then the problem is specific to the User Account. Do you have any 3rd party Safari items installed, specific to the one User Account? Look in the Library>InputManagers folder, or Library>Applications Support>SIMBL folder.
Had some issues with a USB card reader, I've been plugging my camera directly into the computer without problems though. Had a faulty battery, probably. Took it in and they were able to duplicate the problem and said it was most likely the battery.
Other than the recent patches (Quicktime and Airport), everything is the same. I tried reverting to an older version of Safari from Time Machine, but that didn't do anything either.
In the Finder, go to your User Account>Library>Logs>CrashReporter file. Open the Safari.log file. Go to the end of the file and copy/paste the entire entry for the most recent crash.
My Safari can't open too. It just loads forever and it can be closed only with force quit.
My system :
- MBP 2.4GHz Core2Duo
- 10.5.3
- Safari 3.1.1
I don't have any Input Managers and i have already tried these:
- move the preference file
- move the Cache folder
- move Cookies file
As for the last step, i don't have a Safari folder here: User Library>Preferences.
That crash report points to Adobe Flash as the culprit for whatever made Safari crash. The oddity is that plugin is available to all User Accounts. As you are not having problems in any other account I suspect this is a side issue (update to the latest plugin version - 9.0.124- when you get a chance). Also, Flash installs require you to "repair permissions" via Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
I know you have tried reverting to an older Safari via Time Machine. I suggest you reinstall Safari 3.1.1 via a fresh download from
here. Make sure you select the Leopard version. Before starting the install, move the current version of Safari.app in your applications folder to the trash (don't empty it).
