iphone VPN Error Connecting to Sonicwall L2TP

Hi,

Anyone have any success connecting the iphone vpn to the sonicwall pro (w/ enhanced OS) via L2TP? I'm using the sonicwall internal l2tp and I keep getting the following errors:

Warning VPN IKE Received packet retransmission. Drop duplicate packet 32.166.232.220, 4500, xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, 4500 VPN Policy: WAN GroupVPN 2

(I've masked my SW VPN IP address above w/ xxx)

If anyone has successfully setup their iphone to use the sonicwall l2tp vpn, please share your sonicwall settings and how you got it working.

thx,

SW

I have the same symptoms. One issue seems to be that the Sonicwall L2TP does not use the "shared secret" authentication method, while the iPhone 3G requires that you enter a shared secret. A dump of the packets (I'm on a TZ190 which has a packet sniffer built in) shows the iPhone trying to present the shared secret hash, but the SonicWall isn't expecting it, so times out. I believe the "duplicate packet" errors are multiple transmissions of the shared secret by the iphone.

The VPN knobs in the iPhone are so few that I doubt we can configure the necessary fine-grained VPN settings to get the connection to work. The iPhone seems to have many VPN settings hard coded for Cisco IPSec and Microsoft L2TP specifically.
