How many pics can iphone store?

I do not have an iphone myself but I was wondering how many pics it can store roughly because these numbers must be similar to the 3G iphone what hopefully I'll be able to get my hands on soon.

I have actually 2934 pictures and 878 music files on my 8 GB iPhone, and there are still >1.5 GB free. Hope this helps a bit.

If you calculate it: there are about 7.4 GB free space on an empty iPhone. Imagine an image to be around 200 KB in size (they get resized for the iPhone before sync). This would lead to 7400/0.2 = 37000 pictures.

However, even if space is enough, the number might be too large for the iPhone to handle.
