External CD-RW Not Recognized in 10.4.11

Hi My Iomega CD-RW (40x12x48) external firewire drive is not being recognized in osx 10.4.11 are there any known issues or a workaround?

Hi, I don't think it's 10.4.11, but have you checked for any Firmware Updates for it?

Does it Show in System Profiler or Disk Utility?

Have you shut it off & rebooted?

Hey BDAqua,

It doesn't show up in the System Profiler or the Disk Utility. Tried it again in just os10.4 and it shows in System Profiler but no other application. I'll download the G4 firmware update 4.4.8 and see if that does the trick.

I update to the current g4 firmware update and now I can see it in the system profiler but I do not see it in Disk Utility or recognized by other software. The drive itself seems to be functioning ok. Are there any known problems with this drive and 10.4.11?

Have you put a Disc in it? A blank? A recorded one?

Used Disk Utility to Repair Permissions & reboot yet?

I tried an audio cd, blank disc and cd-r and it didn't show on the desktop or recognized by other applications. I went to the Iomega site and it seems it is not supported at least not the software but I thought that 10.4 would support the drive as I have never had to use the CD/drivers that came with the burner.

Thanks BDAqua...It was a shot in the dark but now there's light. The macupdate link didn't work so I went to versiontracker and PatchBurn 4 works like a dream. Very simple and quick to install. Recognizes it in Toast 8 and iTunes....

Hi, I have a FREECOM DVD-RW RECORDER EXTERNAL DOUBLE-LAYER DVD-RW DRIVE — FREECOM_ DVD+/-RW18H9. It worked fine for a year until last week, I made the last Apple update. Now it mounts media, writes and reads, but does not recognize any DVD video file. The DVD Player Apple application displays the message: “ There was an initializtion error. A valid DVD drive could not be found (error -70012)”.

Any help, please???!!!
