Gmail and Hotmail accounts not working with Mail

hi,
I have a new Macbook with Leopard. Mail does not seem to work with either account (that is Gmail and Hotmail). Now in Hotmail it doesn't work at all, whereas in Gmail I can receive but not send any mail. Note that my Hotmail account is like 6 years old now. When trying to send from Gmail, I ger an error message saying that my mail got rejected by the smtp server.

What's odd is that i have done all the basic troubleshooting. Entourage on the other hand works with both accounts. I have tried matching the settings without succes.

Match your account settings in Mail with the data provided by Google [on this page|http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78799&topic=12814] (just click the link - I assume you are accessing Gmail via IMAP here, if not see below). Have you set the outgoing port to 587? Verify that 'Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)' is checked. Check whether your username and password are correct.

I have tried the pop settings, though without succes. So i tried the imap settings you gave me and it seemed to have worked. Thanks a lot.
I can't seem to solve the hotmail problem yet though. Still, I appreciate it.

Right now, hotmail can't be sent to Mail unless you have a paid account. If you do, you can forward to gmail, which will then come to Mail (I find this easiest) or you can set it up with Mail directly. But unless you have a paid account, these options are not available to you.

Yes, it works brilliantly. I receive mail and send outgoing messages. However the junk filter doesn't seem to work.. (A problem since using Outlook on my old Toshiba)

I have an msn premium account. Currently using msn explorer. How do i configure it so that i can access my hotmail through mail?
