Using sharethis and addthis links

Has anyone had any success using widgets from sharethis.com and addthis.com? I've tried them on my iWeb 08 pages without any success. They show up alright. But when you click on them, they take you to a page with contains nothing but the graphic. That's for the email link. I tried the same with their myspace links. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Right. Let's try this specific page: http://web.mac.com/abetterreality/Restoration/News/Entries/2008/1/7Website_Launched_For_Reuniting_%26_Identifying_LostPhotos.html

Now click on the sharethis link at the bottom-right. Then choose email as your sharing method and send it to yourself. When you receive the mail, you won't see the page nor the content. It takes you through to its own link. Very odd.

I send myself the page. The email is fine. But the link in the e-mail is not.

That's because it sends me to the page that iWeb creates for the HTML Snippet. The widget_markup.html page.

iWeb creates such page for code you enter in the HTML Snippet. Technically it is an iframe in the webpage.

The sharethis code has no idea about this. It's not sharethis' fault.

The sharethis code should be embedded in the webpage itself, not in a Snippet.

You have to do that manually after publishing.

Just like you said: It won't work. Phooey. I just got an email from ShareThis:

"Hello,
Our service is not compatible with iWeb '08; we apologize for the
inconvenience. iWeb adds an additional class to our CSS that causes our
widget to be displayed behind all other elements of the web page in some
templates, in others, our widget iFrame does not load at all as it seems
to be in your case. If you have direct access to edit your iWeb
templates CSS, you may be able to manage a fix.

We greatly apologize for the inconvenience.

Thanks for using ShareThis!

Open a HTML Editor. [Taco HTML|http://tacosw.com> is a good choice.

Navigate to your Site and open the HTML file with the page name: pagename.html in the HTML Editor.

Open the folder pagename_files.

Open the file widget0_markup.html in the HTML Editor.

If you have more widgets on your page, then you'll see numbered files. Open them all to see which one you need.

You are now in the HTML Editor.

In the widget_markup.html file copy the code between <body> and </body>.

Select pagename.html and find the <iframe> with the widget_markup.hml in the HTML code.

Delete the <iframe> and the </iframe>.

Paste the code you copied from the widget_markup.html file.

Save the pagename.html file.

Go to the browser and open the URL to that page.

Test the ShareThis code.
