Question

My spell check is stuck in French

Hello, A friend of mine sent me a document to look at while we were chatting using Skype. The document opened in Word and since then, my Word has been stuck using French spellings. (My friend is French and the document he sent me was in French).
I do hope someone can help.

Unfortunately, Safari only check your spelling when you select your local language as French.

OK this fix will be mildly off topic because it sounds like Microsoft Word problem not a Safari problem, in Office 2003 or 2007 double click the language selection at the bottom of the window when Word is open, eg, for me it says English (United Kingdom), then reselect the language you want to use and click Default, Yes, Then OK to close the window. I think the process will be similar on a Mac but you should be able to find the answer on the Office for Mac help pages (A google search should find those)

Hope this fixes it, but this isn't a Safari error really as when you described the problem Safari was not mentioned, perhaps you should use a different newsgroup/forum in future for non-apple product problems.

I did try some of the things suggested here but it didn't help. The way I got around it in the end was asking my brother (who is English) to send me any document via Skype and then when I opened it in Word my spell check was back to english.

Strange but true!
