MacBook Pro turns itself on when power adapter connected

My early-2008 MacBook Pro has the annoying habit of turning itself on as soon as I connect it to the battery charger. (But only if the battery charger is connected to an AC outlet.) Is this normal behavior or should I contact AppleCare?

Thanks.

MacBook Pro 2.4GHz, Mac OS X (10.5.3)

I have noticed the identical behavior. I am new to Apple and am basically unfamiliar with the "sleep" function because in the PC world using "sleep" is very unreliable and asking for trouble. I have become complacent with the MacBook Pro and enjoyed the convenience of not having to reboot and reload basic software every time I want to turn the computer off/on. Nevertheless, this sort of "anomaly" is disconcerting. Is there a list of basic "sleep" rules or do's and dont's available anywhere?

Thanks to anyone in advance.

Bill

Summary

This document explains how to reset the parameter random access memory (PRAM) and nonvolatile RAM (NVRAM) on Macintosh computers.

Important: If your computer does not retain parameter RAM (PRAM) settings when it is turned off, this generally indicates that the battery needs to be changed. Refer to Macintosh Family: Batteries and Part Numbers.
Products Affected

Portable Computers, Desktop Computers
Resetting PRAM and NVRAM

1. Shut down the computer.
2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Turn on the computer.
4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
6. Release the keys.

Your computer's PRAM and the NVRAM are reset to the default values. The clock settings may be reset to a default date on some models.

i have the same problem also, my system is:

MacBook Pro 15" 2.4Ghz C2D 2GB Ram
Leopard 10.5.1

I have set a schedule for my MBP to shut down at 3am every morning.
Most of the time the notebook is not powered to begin with, and when i plug in the power adapter, it turns itself on.

I had assumed this had something to do with my schedule...

Do any of you experiencing this issue also have any schedules set?
