GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL Idle Temperature

Upon booting, my 6800 Ultra's temperature is ~65 ºC and then it steadily climbs to about 90, even if I do nothing.

Should I be concerned because it idles at 90 ºC?

As its temperature increases, the PCI Slot Fan speeds up as well, which also bugs me because it's so loud. However, I've read that the PCI Slot Fan's speed is based on load, not temperature, yet its speed seems to correlate with my GPU's temperature.

Hi-

90ºC is a bit excessive for idle.
Is the fan on the card turning properly?
It might be a good idea to remove the heatsink, and reapply some good thermal compound (recommend Arctic Cooling MX-2, even better than AC Ceramique or AC-5).

Though the tests are in a PC, and the tests were only run 5 minutes, there are some temperature readings of the 6800 here.
A bit more on temperature here.
