PB 3400 startup problems

My PB 3400 is having startup problems.

Upon startup it will chime. However the screen is dark and the HD spins very slowly. I have reason to suspect that the internal power manager may be suspect (I had similar problems years ago when it was under warranty that were traced to the power manager card).

Any suggestions of how I can diagnose the problem to make sure that it is the power manager card or something else and then what I can do to fix the problem.

The PB has not been run in several months...

Thanks

vangor,

Welcome to the Discussions.

Hearing the startup chime is a good sign; as such, you can eliminate the PRAM battery (a.k.a. internal rechargeable backup battery) as an issue.

I would first reset the power manager, then test:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449

If no success, reset the PRAM:

If still no succes, try booting to a CD.
