Playback at 1.5x speed

In FrontRow or DVD Player, I want to playback school DVDs at 1.5x speed. How can I do this, _with audio_?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.3)

Use MPEG Streamclip to convert the DVD to a format that will play with QuickTime Player. It can play at 1.5 with audio (at normal pitch). Use "Show A/V Controls" from QuickTime Player's "Windows" menu.

Thank you. That is helpful. I'd of course, rather not have to convert before viewing.

Are there no players for the Mac that could play 1.5x natively? I've tried VLC and mPlayer, but both are no-go.

MPEG Streamclip can play directly at 2x, but not 1.5x. With some practice, it is understandable. Unlike QuickTime Player, it does not keep the pitch the same, so you have to use Audio Hijack Pro

with the Apple AUPitch effect set to -1,000 to get the pitch back to normal. (If you aren't recording, you can use it in its free trial mode.)
