Is it at all possible to use one of the songs as a ringtone on the ROKR. I was under the assumption that you could but maybe i was wrong.

Thanks

It is a good question, but unfortunately, the best answer I can give you is "kinda." You can't select a song from your iTunes to be a ringtone (at least that I have found), however, if you use bluetooth to transfer an MP3 into the audio folder in the home directory on the phone, it will allow you to select the song. It's probably a good idea to edit your songs to make it shorter since your voicemail turns on much before a 3 minute song ends. 🙂

I have found that in Windows, when the rokr is connected, it shows up as a "Removable Disk" in "My Computer." There are several sub folders, and if you go into the "Mobile" folder from the main root, you can copy and paste anything in there including pictures, video, audio, and ringtones. If you go to the "Ringtones" folder and put an mp3 in there, it stores it on your phone. Unfortunately, you can only use ringtones that are on your Phones SIM card, not on the 512mb Transflash card, which is where it goes when you put it on the Removable disk folders. To make it a ringtone, you have to go into the ROKR after you have transerred it and undocked it from your computer, once in the phone Goto My Media: Sounds : (Select MP3): Switch Storage Device, to put it on your SIM card. My Cingular SIM card is a measily 5mb, so putting ringtones on the 5mb card, doesnt leave with alot of space, which really stinks in my opinion. It seems like such a waste of space. But i have downloaded a free MP3 chopper from dload.com and I am going to experiment and cut up some MP3's to make ring tones.

Does anyone know if Cingular offers an upgrade from a 5mb are there larger SIM cards available to be purchased from Cingular?? Crappiest feature of the Rokr in my opinion.

I have found that there are many media files that can be transfered to and from the ROKR from my mac.

One thing to understand is that the usb connection accesses the "trans"512mb flash card only. The bluetooth connection accesses the "phone" memory card. Only audio files on the "phone" card can be ringtones. You can upload them directly using bluetooth file exchange or via iSync to the mobile/ringtone folder, then you must select the file from the "trans" card and move it on the phone to the "phone" memory card. This may seem confusing but there are several places to switch with memory card you are viewing as well as transfering files from one card to the other.

I have also found that it is easy to transfer pictures taken from the phone to my Mac using the bluetooth file transfer. I can then rename them on the Mac and reupload them named and I can also email the pictures from my computer.

The opposite can be done to upload pictures from the mac to the phone. The pictures can then be used as address book pics, screen saver, or wallpaper.

Creating a ringtone can be done by editing a itunes mp3 in quicktime or imovie so that it is around 20 seconds or less. Then you can reimport it into itunes and convert back to MP3 if necessary. The ringtone from your itunes can then be puit on the phone based on the technique described above using iSync or bluetooth. REMEMBER: mp3s used as ringtones must be moved to the "phone" memory card, NOT the "trans" card.

That's it.

The probalem again is that your not looking at the Transflash when you go into your phone and you look at "Sounds" under "My Media." Once in the "Sounds" location on the phone hit the menu button and then click the option, "Switch Storage Device" Then itll show you your options, if you transfered the songs via USB, then you are probably in the phone memory and you need to be in the Transflash memory to see them. So switch your Storage device and see if you can see the songs, once you can, you can select the individual song, hit the Menu button again and select "Move" to put the song on your Phone Memory, becasue you can only use songs as ringtones or sounds that are on your phone memory.

The phone memory is only 5mb and I have a real problem with this. My roomate has the Moto e815 and it has 40mb of internal memory. 5mb is really upsetting and rediculous seeing as Samsung just introduced a 32 GIGABYTE compact flash card, our cell phones have to have three different sources of memory (translfash, phone mem, and Sim card) to function?? Just rediculous because I edited a bunch of MP3's and made them ringtones and I can only fit about 6 of them until I fill all of my 5mb of space, there got to be a way to make the phone play ringtones from the transflash card. ANYONE>>????????????????
