Q: Bug makes IR Utility useless after saving

Today I decided to use the IR utility for the first time. I did some tests, recording a sweep in IR and deconvolving it. Everything went fine.

Then I created 81 mono IR impulses. Each time saving them as a project when they were recorded.

If I now open such a project file (name.SDIRproj) deconvolving doesn't work anymore. I can click on the deconvolve button but it generates only silence. No IR peak.

However deconvolving works fine when you don't use a saved file but a sweep that you've just recorded into IR.

Can anyone else please check this behaviour in their setup?

I'm using IR Utility 1.0.2 (118.5) on a MacBook running Mac OS X 10.5.3

MacBook 2,4Ghz, Mac OS X (10.5.3)

I tried it; and I'm seeing the same behaviour. Serious bug...
    You should report it at:

I have the same problem. I recorded fifteen 6ch impulses from three different locations, and discovered later when in the studio, that none of them would deconvolve! It seems that they are all useless. I tried deconvolving them using Space Designer (by using the "Decodre IR" function in the controls view), but with no luck.
If anybody has a work around for this, I'd LOVE to know it.
    Thanks

The only way I see around this bug (apart from Apple actually fixing it) is to generate the SD preset immediately after the impulse is captured. I didn't come across this bug until it was posted here because it has just been part of my workflow to generate the preset and listen to it before I move on to the next one. It is a bit of a pain, but it works. I consider it analogous to checking playback after recording, which I always do. And hearing the results often clues me in to a way to improve the impulse anyway.

I have Logic open at the same time, with a selection of audio files to audition with, and check out the SD preset as soon as its done. And because of the other small bug I found where a True Stereo impulse cannot be auditioned with all four channels within the IRU, this is the only way to make sure my impulses came out correct. And for me, True Stereo is the only way.

Hi the following might work to save your IR's:
If you do ctrl-click on a SDIRproj---> Show Package Contents you'll see the recordings as numbered files, 1.aif, 2.aif etc. Also a Sweep.aif and a Session.plist.
The aif's are 32floats, you can open them in e.g. SoundTrack Pro to check if there's something recorded. And also to check if you have sane sweep.aif there.
If you have, you should be able to deconvolve in Spacedesigner or in some other program. PM or mail me if you need help.
    good luck

    This bug really *****.
How do I deconvolve my "5-channel B-format" or any other multi channel impulse responses in Space Designer? If thats not possible, where can I find such a program? Preferably for Mac..

    try: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1475841&tstart=0

    Other programs:
I would first try Room EQ Wizard, free from http://www.hometheatershack.com (you have to register for the forum)
    Otherwise: Voxengo Deconvolver,$40 from http://www.voxengo.com/product/deconvolver/
for Windows, you can also run it from Darwine/X11 (free).

I use the room eq wizard quite a bit to tune systems. I believe I have reviewed it on my website Dallas Home Theater
