I cannot find this anywhere in discussions. How do I get the search box to appear in finder windows? That is, the little one with the magnifying glass on the top right of the grey bar on each window. I can't find any preference setting or anything else to set this. I have spotlight at the top of the screen only.
Barry, it is actually my wife's computer. It is driving her nuts and she in turn keeps asking me. Yes, every time she opens a new finder window, there is no search box.
the solution to your problem is simple, maybe even too simple 😉 You don't need to trash any plist file in this case. Just open a Finder window and do a right-click or ctrl-click on the grey bar at the top of it. A menu appears from which you have to select Customize. A new menu sheet shows up and you can drag and drop the search field to its place.
Floba, thank you. I did not know about customising the toolbar. You have put a smile on my wife's face. And now, if you will excuse me, I sall take advantage of it.
