Samsung printer woes

Seems that AirPort Express is simply not compatible with certain printers, and I fear that I have one.

My Samsung ML-1710 is a few years old but works fine. Hate to think that I have to buy a new printer just to enjoy the printer sharing functionality of my new AirPort Express.

Has anyone successfully configured AirPort Express and 10.5.3 to work with this printer or a related model? Naturally, when I plug the printer USB into the Mac (or PC on the network) the printer works fine, but just hangs and says printer is offline when I go through AirPort Express.

Thanks

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.3)

I just got a Samsung CLX-3160FN multifunction color laser printer that wouldn't print pdf documents from either Preview or Adobe Reader. I called their support and apparently, Samsung printers use a language called GDI, aka SPL (Samsung Printer Language). PDFs use a language called PCL6. Maybe it's a protocol. Anyway, what is needed is a patch for the two languages/protocols. Any ideas, anyone?

By the way,Joe, I like your last name!

I have a CLP-300 that was printing fine wirelessly via Airport Express when running 10.4 upgraded to 10.5 and it will only print one job and then hangs on the next job - printer pauses itself after a while. Works fine on USB though.

Have updated to latest driver from Samsung that is supposed to be 10.5 compatible it's irritating (and frustrating) that it will just do one print job before I have to re-set the Airport Express. Any ideas appreciated

I just started having this problem, too. I've had my Samsung CLP-300 connected to an AEBS (11g) for two years now with no problems. Then, a week ago it started the one document problem. I've tried everything in these forums and nothing seems to correct the problem. I have Leopard (6 months with no problems) and Tiger machines and they're both encountering this situation. From what I've read, the issue doesn't seem to discriminate between Expresses, Extremes, or Time Capsules and while it seems to be most prevalent with Samsung printers, I've seen references to the problem from users of other brands.

Software Update just sent a Samsung printing update a couple days ago, but it did nothing to resolve the issue.
