Can't burn DVDs - error code 0x80020000

(Okay, this time I found the appropriate board.)

So, last time I burned files onto a DVD, it was fine, but today, no matter what I do, I get the same error. An unexpected error occured, error code 0x80020000. This is after the DVD spins up to speed and I have confirmed burn speed.

So I restarted, I tried a different brand of DVD, and I tried burning at 1x. None of it made any difference. What should I try next, oh knowledgeable Mac people?

So I downloaded a Freeware burning program called Express Burn (because when my Windows computer couldn't burn from the default OS burning system, it could burn from other software). Now it says there IS no DVD. Also I cannot get the DVD out. The eject button on the keyboard doesn't work, and the eject button in iTunes doesn't work. Before, it ejected the disc when I tried to burn it from Finder, so I tried that, and it doesn't recognize that there is a disc. So now the disc is just stuck in there.

Now Express Burn is working--about 50% of the time. It doesn't seem so awesome, kind of unresponsive in places. But that could be because of whatever problem I am having that prevents the Finder's burning option from working. And at least it shows the compilation size before I hit "burn." It's like having Nero again except not as good.

OK,
I was having the same problem and finally got so frustrated I called Apple support. The gal had me turn off the computer and unplug it. She also had me disconnect all the peripherals. Then she had me wait a minute and hold down the apple key, option key, and R key with one hand and turn it on with the other, then press and hold the P key until I got 2 chimes (all keys are still pressed until after the 2 chimes sound. It resets stuff...I don't know. I was able to copy a document onto a CD-R but not my photos that I've been trying unsuccessfully to back up for 7 months!

She then had me go to disk utility
First Aid
and do both: Verify Disk Permissions and then Repair Disk permissions.
This DID allow me to copy 6 discs again. Then I started having the same problems.

Maybe this will help.

Even though I called Apple support, I still can't burn discs now. I verified and repaired disc permissions on my CPU using disk utility and though I was able to burn 6 discs immediately afterwards, I can't again!!!!!! I am getting this error code again. So much for buying a computer that's supposed to be great with audio visual applications...

Burning the disc failed because an unexpected error occurred

This is clearly an apple software problem. I tried to burn a dvd today and got the error code 0x80020000 and then transferred the images I wanted to burn to a friend's intel mac and got the same code. I have a g4 powerbook and she has macbook pro. Nothing other than the OS in common. When is Apple going to address this issue?

The only common thread is the Mac OS!

I am experiencing the same problem on my iMac. I will test my PowerBook today. The iMac will not burn any of the disks I've tried (via Finder burn folders) and the problem did not exist ~2 weeks ago making my think that one of the recent security or iTunes updates is the culprit. Has anyone tried to see if this problem can be alleviated by rolling back to a system version prior to one or more of the recent updates? I don't have the ability to easily do this on my iMac unfortunately.

I am also suddenly experiencing burn problems on my iMac.

Burning CDs iTunes regularly hangs on the first track, and the iMac has to be rebooted with the mouse button held down to extricate the disc. Sometimes a complete disc appears to be burned, but it will hang right at the end with the same reboot required.

My machine has the PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K05 (Firmware Q523).

Any ideas?

Same here! -- Change file names.

I had this one folder full of files which I could not burn on DVD-R or DVD+R, getting the same error code 0x80020000. The problem persisted on my old iMac G4 and MacBook, too, either with the OS 10.4.x or 10.5.x. In my case, however, I had no problems burning other assortments of files.

After trying various "usual" things with no luck, I decided to modify the file names -- In this case I removed a "-" (hyphen) from the file names, and voila!, no problems burning these files any more. I consider this to be a subtle bug in the OS or Finder (please tell me if I am wrong).

Hope this helps...
