M25U Error Code

Question

M25U Error Code

Has anyone ever received the error code: C:31:25 on their Sony HVR-M25U deck???

I insert a tape, it then tells me "Reinsert Tape" and that error code flashes.

Anyone know what this means??

Thank you for that link, but nothing in there specific to this error code. I am a little apprehensive about "smacking" a $3K deck. LOL. . . everyone on that post just kept hitting their equipment. . . . . hmmmmmmm.

Anyone else heard of this error and know if there is a fix???

I would fast forward the tape to the end and rewind it and see what happens. The error is most likely telling him there is an issue with the tape and possibly by fast forwarding and rewinding it may free it up. I've never seen this error and if I did I would take 3 aspirins and call Sony in the morning.

I don't remember the exact error...but we used to get one similar to, if not the same as...on a Sony VideoWalkman.

I can't remember the exact model number either...because funny thing...after so many times of getting that error, the deck essentially died.

Yours may be on the way there as well, so if it's important, consider getting it up on a tech bench.

Have you tried cleaning the heads with a head cleaner tape device?

I can't fast forward or rewind the tape because as soon as it is inserted, the machine immediately gives the error and asks me to eject the tape. I found somewhere that it may be a reel motor malfunction, which would make sense because the deck doesn't even grab the tape to wrap it around the heads. It simply freezes up. Once the error appears, the only function that can be performed is eject. Heading into the office this morning. If it still isn't working, going to take it to be serviced, then I'll have the answer to post up here.
