ITunes 4.9 won't launch properly (menu bar but nothing else). Force quit appears to work but iTunes appears back in the dock and attempting to force quit again reports "not responding". Only option is to restart. Any ideas?

No but I do own a dog 🙂 Hello iTunes won't launch properly and when force quit is used it doesn't respond sounds like something else is using iTunes as well. . . Try shutting down the other program 1st I would start looking for Widgets and Konfabulators. . . and things like that, plug-ins etc..... using the program called activity monitor from the Utilities folder will show all 'active processes'.....

More info: iTunes responds when my iPod is disconnected. Apart from not responding when trying to force-quit, iTunes stalls when updating my iPod keeps playing music, but stalls and has to be force-quit, etc. etc. etc.
try setting the iPod back to factory specifications and run the latest update software for the iPod and see what happens then

I've had this same problem - I use iTunes to share music across my house to several machines and it has started to hang, requiring a force quit. Even the restart doesn't work.
Per the suggestion in this thread, I've turned off the "iTunes Lyrics" widget to see if that was at least causing the difficulty with restarting...

I have had the same problem of itunes not launching.
Personally, I believe there is a conflict with my digi design software pro tools, only because I know there is a conflict with Quick Time 7 and Pro Tools, and my itunes problem reared it's head around the same time the QT7 problem, did.
I have been spending all sorts of money and time trying to solve this problem today, with no luck.
Any ideas?

Well,
3 days of iTunes 5.0 and no freezes or crashes - and the shared library is MUCH more responsive than under 4.9 (or 4.7 for that matter). GOOD JOB APPLE!
There may be other bugs in iTunes 5.0, but I haven't seen them and my tunes are back...
