Sony HDR SR-10 - importing problem iMovie 7.1.2

After many months of success, I am suddenly having difficulty importing clips from my Sony HDR SR-10 into iMovie version 7.1.2. My system is an Intel based Mac running OS X version 10.5.3. My computer recognizes the camcorder, generates thumbnails, and begins the import process. When completed, I get an error message stating "an error occurred during importing" and only a portion of the movie clips are transferred into iMovie. The remaining clips are still available on the camcorders drive and a viewable but will not transfer.

I have spoke with Sony and Mac support and neither could provide a solution. Needless to say, I am getting frustrated. If anyone can help, it would be extremely appreciated.

Thank you for the suggestion, I will definitely give it a try. I should mention that the total file size I was trying to import was a little more than 1 GB. I don't suspect this is the cause of my problem but it's certainly worth ruling this out.

A had a similar problem with my Sony HDR-SR7. I started going thru the videos on the camcorder and deleted one at a time until it started working (after making a backup copy of the camera on an external drive). It seems one of the movies was causing the transfer to hang up. I had read somewhere that if you mix video modes this can happen, but I wasn't using different modes. I can only assume it was some kind of video bug, or maybe related to the length of video. I had some really long shoots on that drive.

To all,
Pls help...I'm new to the mac world....I have been a pc guys for ages...I have a sony HDR-SR10 and would like to transfer and burn the movies on my Imac..when I connect the camera the mac sees it as unknown. I am able to drag the MTS files over but can't watch it in Imovie instead only the VLC player I downloaded..Pls advise.

I'm having exactly the same problem. My camera (SR-10)imported some of my movies, but for the rest he is refusing it. I removed everything from the cam that was allready imported but the problem stays. I have enough diskspace... I don't get it. Would it be a solution to copy it to the hard drive?

I have the SR8, I also occasionally run into a clip that won't import, when this happens, I import everything else and try to convert the dodgy clip with Voltaic, which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.

If I continue to take more video with the camera once this happens I get more instances of dodgy clips, so I reformat the camera, that does the trick for another couple of months.
